RKL and LEDs

Postby Pallan » Wed Dec 19, 2012 9:31 pm

ok im no programmer and instructions are near impossible for me to follow. i have a RKL and my DIY LED powered via and ALC and meanwell drivers.
if someone with LED experience and some basic programing knowledge would like to take a look at my system and help me set it up so i can have the lights ramp up and be dimmed so there not so bright i would greatly apreciate it. home this weekend.. i bet a coral frag or two could find their way into your tank if you can get it figured out :)

RKL and LEDs

Postby SoDak » Wed Dec 19, 2012 11:31 pm

Sorry if this is a dumb question but, do you know if they powered by a dimable driver or not?

I didn't pay much attention in electronics class but I think you are stuck with whatever output they have without one?

I could take a look at it. Is there a manual online that you know of?

We would need to know the model of the meanwell drivers. Some are dimmable by by the RKL type controllers and others are dimmable by pots and arduino controllers. Usually the RKL compatible dimmable drivers need an electric charge on the dimming controls or they won't light up at all. The arduino compatible will work without any charge on the dimming controls. Usually with Meanwell if the model number ends with a D it is compatible with the RKL, if it ends with a P it is the arduino type and if it ends with a number it is usually non-dimmable.

Is this it? http://www.digitalaquatics.com/downloads/RKL%20User%20Guide.pdf

I took a quick look and I don't see any ramp up/down function but I haven't dug into it yet.

The controllers should be adjustable, not very hard at all if you have a good meter.
