I just started doing this. If you want to run things by me let me know, Some thoughts:

- Use the drain valve, the baster method is horrible

- Use Roebic Lye product and do not substitute. The others are not 100% Lye

- Pop bottle necks are fragile. Be very careful

- wear proper gloves and eye protection. Do not breathe in the vapors...

- Do this away from where pets will be. If you spill, the chemicals and resin can be poisonous if ingested by pets.

- Even dilutes, the muriatic will etch your driveway... Have a hose running on the driveway to dilute if doing it outside.

Thanks for the info! I will surely be going this way instead from here on out when the Roebic stuff is gone.

The process is easy once you are used to it. Any chance you can share your method for separating the cation and anion resins? Do you use the baster method or a fluid drain valve? If valve where did you get yours?

Western IA, some in other states. I am looking at a 3 litre reactor, valves, and possible a plexi seperator between anion and cation take some real bubba engineering to make it work....lol. I got about 2 1/2 lbs spent resin, I know there will be loss, so the more the better. I still have a couple liters of reagent lab grade hydrochloric just need the sodium hydroxide, and some time.
