Grant is right. God has a plan. He is certainly not punishing your sister, but he does allow terrible things to happen. He looks like a great kid and I'll send my prayers his way. If you think long and hard about it, I'm sure you can find how he has been an angel in your lives.

Thanks. He is such a sweetheart in his good moods. We are soooo glad he got better. His counts were screwy again 2 weeks ago. ANC was up but his white cell and other things were a bit screwy. We had to wait another week to check if it might be coming back or if it was just from getting sick that his counts were screwy still. A week ago yesterday everything was a lot better. That was a long week of waiting, though.

He ran a fever Monday night and was admitted to the hospital again. A fun group of guys came around and gave him a cool costume. He loves it!

He is fever free today, yes!! He has to be fever free for 48 hours before they will release him.

They will likely keep him till Saturday now. When he was admitted Monday night his hemoglobin was 8.4 and yesterday tested at 7.7. When it falls under 7 he gets a transfusion. His ANC, which has usually been around 1,000, was 100. If his counts take longer to rally, he will stay in longer. So far it's viral, so it's support the body (fluids, transfusion if needed etc) and sit-wait. It's quite a rollercoaster ride.

Thanks :)

He got to go home today!!! YAY :) They are sooo glad to be "free". My sis said something about some of the medicines having the ability to change the body's genetic makeup and if a certain change takes place one of the meds can crash his immune system every 4-6 weeks (I think thats the time frame she said). They started the test for that on Wednesday and will have the results at his followup appointment on Tues. If the change did take place they will need to adjust meds.

He just had 2 bad infections, and didn't develop the genetic mutation. So all is good once again :)

He was in the news and for a good reason! They treated him and family to a limo ride to breakfast while a group of volunteers were at his house putting together a new swing set in his backyard.

All is still great with Connor. Hopefully it's smooth sailing from here!!

I have some bad news about my daughter's friend's little sister, though :( She is 18 months old and was just diagnosed with a cancerous brain tumor (called ependymoma). Mom and Reese (the 18mo old) are now in Tennessee for 4 months at St Jude to receive the first round of treatment. After a short return to home, it sounds like they will travel to Florida for 6 weeks of treatment. The rest of the treatment can be done at the castle here in Sioux Falls. It's hard because they have 4 children, therefore, dad is staying in Sioux Falls with the other kiddo's while mom and Reese are away.

Family and friends are setting up fundraisers to help:

JULY
July 15th 5-8:00 Tea Pizza Ranch
July 22nd 5-9:00 Texas Road House.
July 27th 1-7:00 Renner Safari Bar & Grill.
This is a GREAT way to help this special family!

If you would like updates there is a caringbridge page. Reesewhitney or Prayers for Reese on facebook.

She is a cutie and I hung out with them for awhile at the school skates last school year.

It's a bummer they have to be so far away from home. At least with Connor, everything is within about a half hour or forty-five minutes drive.

He went back into the hospital Dec 25 with a 104 fever. Things have been a little crazy: blood pressure issues, heart rate spikes. He's having a tough time. His red blood cells are low enough that he needs a transfusion but bc of his fever they can't do it. They need him fever free so they can monitor reactions. Last time he got a transfusion he got dizzy and began throwing up. Please keep him in your thoughts

Thanks guys. It is kind of scary. His cultures are not growing anything, which means whatever he has is viral. It has to run its course and the docs are there to support him in any medical way avail. If it were bacterial, it'd be easier to treat with antibiotics. They are giving some anyway as a precaution. They do it until 100% proven otherwise. Probably a good idea since he's in the hospital.

They have him behind 2 sets of doors this time too. The first initial door goes into a sterile room and there's another door to get into his room. He's never been put in one of these rooms before.

They were supposed to fly down to AZ Dec 31 for Christmas at dad's house. That is scratched for now. Bummer time of the year to come down with something.

They were able to complete the transfusion and he is feeling like playing now. His white cell counts are up a little, which is good news. Those don't come from the transfusion, his body has to make those. The transfusion was for low red blood cell counts.

He's been doing alright since getting out of the hospital. I just pray to God he doesn't get one of those nasty strains going around.

I have a co-worker who has been hospitalized, and last I heard was on a ventilator, from H1N1 and pneumonia complications. They said he was gray and his lips were blue when he reached the ER. Docs were surprised he was still alive. Very scary stuff this year, that's for sure. H1N1 is hitting the middle of the bracket harder this year. Typically it mainly affects the young and old...but not this year.
