Aquaticgeek's Bowfront Planted Aquarium

This is the beginning of the story so here's the background I received this tank for free from a friend of my wife's. It is a Bowfront aquarium and is 70 something gallons has an overflow chamber with holes in the bottom that are used for the 15 gallon sump/trickle filter. The stand is black with a silver material on the sides and a canopy of the same silver material. The stand has a cut out for the plumbing to go through.

I set this up as a reef tank originally but decided to tear down and redo it as a planted aquarium

This was a tough decision as I love reef tanks very much and have had saltwater aquariums for about 8 of the 20 years iv had aquariums.

I LOVE PLANTED TANKS!!!!!!!!!!!!

So starts the conversion

The LED lights are doing great and the plants are growing like crazy. Tannins are still a regular maintenance but I think they are actually saving me from having to trim as much. The banana plant. Tiger lotuses. Jungle val. Sunset hygro. Crypts. Bacop. Rotala indica all doing really well. The red and yellow plants are slow growing but seem healthy. The wisetria changes back and forth as my flow varies with sponge intakes plugging which I squeeze out about every two weeks. If I did it bi weekly it would take over probably. The guppies are over producing The discus are healthy active and growing. The baby rainbows are slow and steady growers. I think a few will start to color up soon.

Updated photo. I f you look at the last photo watch the driftwood on the right and check it on this one. Sadly it has come loose from the silicon I used to anchor it. I'm going to try and get plants to take over this task but I may use thread to hold it together while strategically placed moss will take over after some time passes. I will either leave the thread till it deteriorate over time or just cut it out after a few months. I'll prob base the decision on visibility of the string

Also I added co2 today so this is the before co2 and I will try and do lots of frequent photo updates for time and effect of the co2. Also did a small wc and added a squirt of flourish to kick start things a bit

The green moss and algae on top of the wood. The tiger lotus has gotten taller. Ummm jungle val is ridiculous. I had to trim the Bacopa colorata because it was circling the surface. The banana plant has shot up a surface lily that's a purply pinkish color it only took it three days from shoot to lily my discus are finally getting a little bigger

Jungle val is taking over lol everything past the back 3 in is all two or less weeks old. Already to the top and curving around. Get one new shoot every few days and with in four days of popping out they can get 3/4 the height of the tank.

So I'll be trimming the jungle val way back except the one I'm tracking
All the algae will be trimmed to as close to nothing as possible
If I can catch some flag fish they are going in this tank to keep the algae in check better
I'm gonna trim the wisteria back quite a bit
The red alternantha tall one is getting trimmed to the same as the rest and spread more into the front for better color presence
The three bug red tiger lotus leaves are getting cut out.
The banana plants surface lily is getting cut

The algae and jungle val are the biggest issue due to them choking out light at the surface
