Yeah, a couple Oto's would be fine, like Josh said they stay really small.

Post some current photos.

ok, well I have been neglecting this bad enough to not notice all the snails until today  my bad

Guess I don't need an oto. I haven't looked anything up yet, but would anyone know off hand what kind of snails these are? Thanks :)

I don't think it looks too bad, considering I haven't done a water change either. Tanks will all get some TLC when this semester is done.

And thanks to Will for the Red Cherry shrimp! Emilee loves them.

Yeah that sounds right. a lot of people with smaller substrates like to keep them to stir the substrate.

If it was an mts a lot of the time you won't see them during the day as they like to bury themselves but they love to come out at night .... Occasionally I will see a stray or two during the day .... But beware I you get one your bound to get a lot more . Don't get me wrong they can be nice to have but I you overfeed the population can get out of hand very quickly

I do have some baby shrimp!!!! I will try to update the fts later today or sometime tomorrow.

Hey guys, would a piece of watersprite be ok for this tank? Can I just trim it off as it gets too tall or should I just skip it?

Here are some current pics.

Are the snails eating these holes in the plants? I'm guessing so.

And is the plant in the one supposed to be that dark?

Coloration on the crypt looks good. Holes in plants are most often a result of nutrient defixiency. Most small aquarium snails do not eat plants until.

The deficiency is likely from my lack of water changes. I did a 2 gal one a couple days ago.

I have an rather prolific colony of ramshorn snails. They don't bother the healthy parts of the plants and they do a pretty good job of pruning them.

I have a few plants that I got at Petsmart for 50% off that were half dead to see if they would recover and the snails ate the dead/dying parts and the new growth took off.

It's looking real nice Korrine. The color on those crypts is correct. That's what they looked like in the big tank at the BFH. Like everyone has said already, it's probably not the snails, but a nutrient deficiency. Pinholes in the leaves usually comes from a K deficiency. For a tank that size you could add a little liquid fertilizer between water changes to keep nutrient levels up. The good thing about K is that it is really hard to overdose.

One of my chem assignments is to look up 15 different chemical compounds in our home and list the product, chemical name, formula and tell if it's ionic or covalent. I'm trying to get some of the fish stuff I have on this paper. Gfo and limewater are on there now :)

I found some Seachem flourish at Petsmart. They were the only store that I saw some at.

First stopped at MiniCritters, then Petco, then Petsmart. Kind of went down the line...lol

Still about the same. Haven't done anything with it since I got back. Was gone May 18-29. Emilee's guppy's did die and we replaced them with little fish, I have no idea what they were now. I should have written them down. I'm suffering from severe jet lag at the moment too.

Since the little one started to drip from somewhere, I upgraded it to a 10g tank. Here is a photo just after the move so it's cloudy. I need to do some revamping once it clears and I can see what's going on.

I was just thinking about low light ground cover :)

Yep it's the java fern and log from the beginning.

I don't think I can put shrimp in until I can convince my daughter that the minnows need to go. My husband put minnows in the tank earlier this summer :(

I had a discussion with Em explaining the minnows need to go if she wants some more cool shrimp. We could get some other cool fish too. She's pondering the idea. I moved stuff around today and it's still cloudy. I need more black dirt. Anyone know where I can buy just a little bit? I don't need a whole bucket or bag.

Cryptocoryne wendtii green is the name of the plant all across the back. It's a rosette plant and will produce more plants by root runners. They will do very well in there and just get better with time. To groom them cut any damaged leaves or if they get too big follow the stem of the leaf down to substrate as close as you can and cut them off.

I can't wait for a two week picture when it all settles in

Looking great
