Tank stand blue prints?

Postby Shifty » Fri Jan 02, 2015 12:48 pm

Does anyone know of a design for a wood stand to hold a 6ft 120 gal while having possibly a 4ft 75 gallon below?

I guess mainly a 6ft stand with no middle support below.

I have exactly 73.5" between walls and 6ft tank is 73" long with moulding. If I'm going to create a wall with this tank I might as well have more than one in there...

Any additional ideas for setup are welcome. Oh and this is a freshwater setup for large CA cichlids.

I have a Freddy and Jaguar for the 6ft with convict dithers.

Don't have a 75 but was thinking of doing that below the 120 and not sure what I would do in there.

As long as its okay to link to Reef Central this thread should help you out. Its very long but I think the one of the first posts is about building a six foot stand with no middle support.

Tank stand blue prints?

Postby SoDak » Sat Jan 03, 2015 11:19 am

You should be able to use 2x8's for under your tank and have no problem spanning 6 ft. If you want to go down to 2x6's I would glue and screw a piece of plywood to the side to add some strength. I went about 5 ft with 2x4's and plywood. You could probably be able to go 6ft with 2x4's and plywood but I tend to overkill my stands. Helps me sleep at night...

Yeah I'd rather do overkill and sleep better as well.

I thinking 2x8 and piece it together.
