Calcium Deposits - Tough Tough Tough

Postby wiscfour » Fri Oct 16, 2015 5:40 pm

I got a 29 Gallon for free but it has white Calcium scum at the top. Rebeated Scrubbing and Vinegar at the top has not worked. Any ideas to get rid of the tough ugly stuff!

The Calcium is smooth so a new razor has been tried and has just rolled over it with no benefit. At first, the razor worked somewhat but the glass is still not clear. The stuff may or may not have slightly pitted the glass at the very top of the aquarium making an razor go over it and not getting fully clear glass.

A chemist may help me. I suspect it may take a chemical solution such as mustard seed powder and leather attachment on my drill. Another idea may be some toilet deposit remover- because it is so strong. A third idea might be
muric (spelling) acid- commonly used for concrete cleaning.

I was just hoping with all the aquarium experts here, someone had already found a product that worked when vinegar, razors, and elbow grease did not clear up the glass. All 3 (Vinegar-Razors and sweat) have been tried several times).

Thanks for the help. Yeah, that stuff can be dangerous-if improperly used. Can clean out your nose hairs, lungs, allergies and who knows what else. I will keep the ratio in mind. Man that would really be acid ( which of course really is the purpose). Sincerely, thanks again.
